Street Maintenance
The City of Sherwood Public Works Department regularly reviews and schedules various repairs on all of the city's streets. Below are descriptions of regular maintenance processes. Click on the link below to view an interactive map and see which streets are scheduled for repairs this year.
Crack Seal
Crack sealing is one of the most effective road pavement preservation tools available and a very important tool for a pavement management program. Sealing cracks in asphalt pavement is a commonly used maintenance procedure which reduces pavement deterioration by eliminating surface water penetration into underlying base and sub-base layers. Cracks left untreated will lead to more cracks, alligator cracking, potholes and sub-base failure. With proper and timely application, crack sealing can extend pavement life past the point where the cost benefit of added pavement life exceeds the cost of conducting the operation.
Slurry Seal
Slurry sealing is one of the most versatile and cost effective ways to preserve and protect our paving investment over time. The application of slurry seal will significantly extend the life of existing pavements by protecting the under surface from the effects of aging and the environment over time. Slurry seal will also extend the life of the street, restore weathered wearing surface as well as protects and retards continued weather and traffic erosion.
Paving
Pavement preservation is the sum of all activities undertaken to provide and maintain serviceable roadways, including preserving the investment of the City street system, extending pavement life, enhancing pavement performance, ensuring cost effectiveness, and reducing user delays. Pavement work undertaken will extend the service life of an existing pavement. This would include the restoration, placing an overlay, and/or other work required to return an existing roadway to a condition of structural and functional adequacy.
